Sunday 27th July Home Doubleheader vs Manchester A's
2 fantastic wins for Sheffield on a sunny Sunday. Yet again, a large squad of 17 Bladerunners suited up, not to mention Frank who showed but was unable to play, as well as Dave our very own local scorer. On the field, the game 1 starting 9 controlled the A's keeping the game close and in Sheffield's favour. Some timely line up changes led to the spark that sealed the game for the Bladerunners. Wei-Kai Liao entered the game and promptly hit a home run, this was followed by Jim Ellis entering and having a valuable at bat to extend the winning margin, final score 6-2.
Game 2 was a one sided affair until late. Some solid defence from the Sheffield team kept the lead intact and heading into the final inning Sheffield were holding a 12-4 lead, only gifting the A's some late runs, via bloops and timely hits. Highlights included Wei-Kai managing an in the park home run, with a combination of great hitting, speed and a fielding error.
Solid performances from all 17 players. All getting game time, all helping to get the results. The squad goes from strength to strength, and 2014 is proving to be a season where the full roster is contributing - the present and future looks bright. Bladerunners move to 11-5 for the season.
Stats and extended game reports to follow.

Home Doubleheader vs Liverpool - Sunday 13th July
Doubleheader split. In a hard fought afternoon of baseball, Sheffield came away with honours even after sharing the victories. Game one was heavily influenced by the appearance of Liverpool's pitcher who has been on their roster of the AAA team, but got playing time against a strong and deep Sheffield lineup. A fantastic experience for the Bladerunners to experience a quality pitcher and despite the loss, the team learned more in defeat than they might have done in victory. Game 2 saw the team show their continued good season form, taking the victory and walking away with their heads held high. Sheffield's season record now stands at a fantastic 9-3.

Baseball & BBQ
On Sunday 29th June, the Bladerunners held its midseason BBQ/Baseball event. 24 rostered players turned up, as well as some family members. The event was a fantastic success with a full inter squad game taking place, complete with reserves and managers. All players enjoyed some quality playing time without the usual game time pressure.
Add in a BBQ, complete with coach Yovanny's special Dominican cuisine and drinks, added a real special feeling to a relaxing afternoon. After a hard fought battle Nick's team overcame a valiant challenge from Rich's team. A great way to spend a scheduled week off while the rest of the league battled each other. Thanks to everyone who helped out, hope to see even more people at the next one.
Sunshine, Drama, and 2 Great Wins
Sunday 22nd June, the Oldham North Stars came to town. They were greeted by a 20 strong squad of Bladerunners! while Oldham had a minimum 9 players.
Game 1 was all Go, Literally! Making his pitching debut Go Hasegawa made an immediate impact by striking out batter after batter. Sheffield's offence helped him out by piling on the runs. With comfortable lead in middle of the 6th, the Bladerunners brought their modified closer, veteran - Jim Ellis, who shut up shop and closed out the win.
Game 2 started with a revised line up utilising the full squad available. 3 batters into the first inning, tragedy struck as newcomer Martin Kent suffered a freak injury while fielding a routine ground ball at 2nd base. Everyone associated with the Bladerunners wishes him a speedy recovery from his ankle injury. Once game 2 restarted, Sheffield picked up where they left off from game 1. With Nick Wills on the mound controlling the defence and the offence led by a great performance by Nestor Martinez, a win was always on the cards. For the second game in a row, Jim Ellis came on to close the game out and secured the victory
All the Bladerunners squad played at least 4 innings each (with the obvious exception of Martin) showing the true depth of the team. Special mentions to Chris Bowen who made his debut, Also to Liam Booth who sacrificed his own playing time to umpire both games.
Sheffield Bladerunners attend the Stannington American Sports Day - Sunday June 15th
Stannington Park held it's first ever American Sports Day on Sunday 15th June.. The Sheffield Bladerunners attended along with an American Football team from Leeds, as well as Sheffield's Lacrosse and Dodgeball teams. The event was aimed at introducing these sports to families and also to raise money for the local 'Jack and Jill' preschool charity.
The weather wasn't the greatest for the event, however that didn't stop Radio Sheffield reporter Katherine Gowen having a go a hitting a baseball while live on air for the 'clueless' challenge.
Once the radio had been and gone, it was time for the kids to shine. Bladerunner players helped youngsters as young as 2, have a go at running the bases and hitting some balls. There were smiles on everyone's faces - parents, players and of course the children.
The event, although hindered by the weather, was a great step forward for all the sports and hopefully future events will be planned, where the Bladerunners can represent baseball on behalf of Sheffield.

Bladerunners Home Diamond
Our home field is in the north of Sheffield, situated only 5 minutes off the M1, making commuting easy for people not located in Sheffield itself. Public transport also runs past the main entrance of our ground, directly from Sheffield city centre.
We are currently in the early stages of developing our diamond, having spent the previous decade at a successfully developed field complete with cut outs and permanent pitching mound. So an exciting future lays ahead in the legacy of Sheffield baseball.
