Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball

Animate On Scroll.
We offer a fantastic, social, local activity that is available to all cross sections of our community.

Whether you've played before or just looking to try something new, Slow Pitch Softball could be the perfect sport for you.
Softball comes in two main formats, this caters for all levels of participation and competition and is played widely across the world.

Fast Pitch Softball is exactly how it sounds. The ball is pitched underarm at high speed and at a more direct low pitch angle, therefore reaching the batter faster and also leading to greater contact and exit speed off the bat into the field of play.

Slow Pitch Softball involves the ball still being pitched underarm, but at a much higher looping angle, usually arriving coming down into the batter's strike zone at a much lesser speed, but still including spin and movement to challenge the batter to contact the ball at the optimum location.

Both versions of softball are played at all levels, from grass roots in the park with friends, family or work colleagues, all the way up to National teams, playing in International competitions.

The Bladerunners Softball Club is focusing on the Slow Pitch aspect of Softball to include the broadest cross section of our community to be able to be involved.
The Bladerunners is also looking to involve corporate participation from local businesses, in an initiative to encourage a healthy lifestyle, social involvement outside the work environment and team bonding.
So is Slow Pitch Softball for you? We believe yes, no matter who you are. UK softball participation levels are significantly higher than those of baseball, for the simple fact that Slow Pitch is a great social and recreational way of playing, that reduces the physical and technical requirements needed in Baseball. Slow Pitch still provides competitive games at a high level, as well as the platform to move up the sport, all the way to National GB team level.

Our format will provide the base for anyone to come along and give it a go. There really is no stereotype of the typical player, you could be a mum or dad wanting to play a sport with your teenager, a couple looking to play a sport together, neighbourhood friends looking to get active and have fun or someone looking to join a club to meet new friends who share a similar interest.
Are there any age or athletic ability restrictions? Not really. As with our baseball club, we set a lower age limit of 14, this is purely for safety and providing the right environment (including DBS checked coaches in attendance) so ideally 14 or older. As for an upper age - NO, if you feel you are willing and able to play then we'll make it happen for you. Obviously, there is a level of movement and physical exercise involved, but we'll cater it to include anyone with restrictions we can work around. As for mobility restrictions, we see no reason that a wheelchair bound person can't join in! Sure there will be adjustments to be made, but here at the Bladerunners we hope all members share our goal to include everyone and everything can be altered to ensure all participants are treated as equals and fully involved.

Our sessions are run mid week, on Thursday evenings alongside our baseball training. Like any newer addition to a club, it will take time to build a core group of members, but once that has been established, playing team games against teams from other towns during the week or at weekends will be the goal.
Our training involves introducing those who are new to the rules of the game and helping you with every step to becoming a better player. We'll also aim to play as many game situations as possible, as this will include all the aspects of hitting, fielding, pitching and most of all having fun.

As we will be focusing on Slow Pitch and keeping a fun, social aspect to the club, we will actively be looking for a mix of males and females, rather than same sex groups of players. Slow Pitch is set up to cater for this with simple rules, like alternate hitting (female, male, female, male.....), there are also 10 players per team, which leads to equally matched up teams. Besides that we just want as few barriers as possible to prevent people playing.
The club has all the equipment you'll need to get started, so all you need to do is turn up, wear something comfortable to play in and maybe bring a drink, after that we'll take care of the rest while you have fun. However, if you wish to bring or buy your own gear then feel free to do so.

The social side - besides playing, our club has a great social community within it, with regular meet ups at our local bar after training or games, to non softball/baseball competitions to take part in (like karting, axe throwing, bowling etc). We also organise events at our regular meeting point in town for quizzes, drinks and a place to get together and talk 'Ball'.
If you feel you or a few of you, would like to come along and give our Softball club a try get in touch and say Hi and we'll look out for you whenever you can make it. Alternatively, you can just turn up on the day and surprise us! 🙂

Also get in touch if you have any questions re. our Softball Club, we'll be more than happy to answer.

We look forward to welcoming you along in the near future - The Sheffield Bladerunners Co-Ed Slow Pitch Softball Club
