A rough first start to the new 2021 season for the Sheffield Bladerunners team II. Losing 23-1 to the Sheffield Cubs is tough but a huge learning curve for everyone. Luke Brown our starting pitcher gave the cubs a first few innings they weren’t expecting. Luke tired due to the scorching heat and Paul Cassidy took the reigns from him and pitched even more heat. Multiple strikeouts were recorded for both pitchers for the first time this season. It was our turn to bat and saw many base hits and get our offence into a flow. We also saw an amazing hit from Emily. The catcher Charlie Goodwin had to retire due to immense heat and Keenan Brookes took over the throne behind home plate to finish the game off. |

Focus continues on developing new talent, positivity abounds despite the score, Team II a team built on great spirit, roll on week 2

Game 2 after a well deserved lunch break and trying to recover from the 27 degree heat. Starting the Bladerunners off was Stuart throwing strikes which followed with strikeouts. The Cubs also had a strong at bat to reply to Stuart and their 3rd baseman, Fesreira, hit a huge home run. Heads of the Bladerunners went down also with their hopes and tiring players needed to be changed. Players played new positions never played before by Sheffield, everyone learned from the game but the score did not reflect our positivity and resilience that was showed, the Cubs ending in 31-1 |

Game one came great offensively for both teams. The first innings had the bases loaded at all time. Luke Brown with the first hit in the game, after walks, allowed Emily Beahan and a sliding Charlie Goodwin home to gain an early lead. More runs followed with Matt Creed hitting a double increasing the score by two more again. Then followed a first strikeout for their pitcher Tom Smith against first baseman Craig Moulds. The first half of the inning one granted team II a 6-0 lead. But then the bats came swinging from team III with a vengeance and bases loaded again and again with base hits. The first inning ended with a 6-14 scoreboard to Sheffield Bladerunners team III. The second inning came and the first half was gone in a blink of an eye as only 5 batters saw the plate from team II. The opposite from Team III though as another 4 runs scored and going through the batting order, finishing the second inning on a full count strikeout. The 3rd inning looked strong for team II to make the huge gap close as 5 runs came making it 11-14. More runs came from team III making the final score 11-19 to Sheffield Bladerunners team III |

Then came game 2 out this 2 game series. The game started with Keenan Brookes, the right fielder, at the plate and started it of with a walk granting him 1st base. Steph Osman stepped up to the plate but before she could swing Keenan turned on the afterburners and headed for 2nd base almost falling off the other side. Walks and base hits allowed Keenan home and the first inning half ended on a strikeout against Tom Chappell. The first inning ended quickly as Stu Garner stepped onto the mound after the first 2 batters were struck out and a beautiful catch that came right back to him ending the inning in a 1,2,3 inning absolutely amazing. With that quick first inning, team III wanted revenge and so they did striking out the first two batters. Keenan walks and stole 2nd base again it was like deja vu and finishing on Steph striking out. Team III came out and got walked and base hits allowing 4 runs home going through the batting order making it 1-4 to team III. The last 3 innings for team II went quickly offensively as 1,2,3 batters went. The opposite for team III as walk and more base hits came 6 more runs in the final innings. Finishing 1-10 to Sheffield Bladerunners team III |
