Bladerunners went with an experienced Pitcher in Game 1, but it was Manchester who came out with the hot bats early on and jumped out to a big early lead. The game turned in the 3rd inning when the Bladerunners really woke up and went crazy with the bats, scoring a mammoth 15 runs to completely turn the game on its head. This was then followed by 2 faultless innings of pitching from Alan who only gave up 1 run in the final 2 innings to prevent any chance of a Manchester comeback and wrap up an 18-10 Bladerunners win. |

In Game 2 the Bladerunners bats showed no sign of cooling off, as they raced to an 10 run lead after the first half inning. This game saw a first pitching performance for rookie Asher and he couldn’t have got off to a better start with a shutout first inning. In the 2nd Manchester managed to fight back into the game with a big inning of their own, however another monster 13 run inning for the Bladerunners put the game well out of sight, and despite a final out spirited fightback from Manchester, Rookie Asher combined with closer Alan managed to shut the game down to seal a 24-15 victory. |

2B C. Brosnan, LF K Brown, 1B S. Lingrell, P T. Smith, 3B H. Rowlands, SS A. Williams, C J. Hukin, CF J. Wynn, RF S. Walker Game Summary -
Looking to bounce back from a couple of disappointing performances last week in lacklustre Bladerunners derby losses, Team III did exactly that by finding their form with red-hot bats against Team II. With Tom Smith making his first start on the mound Team II began strong, taking an early 6-0 lead after the first half inning, but that was swiftly forgotten when Team III capitalised on rookie pitching on the other end by working their way through the order twice and stacking up 13 runs themselves thanks to well timed walks and crisp hitting, including a 2-run double from Tom himself. It was an error-strewn fielding performance from Team III last week, but it couldn’t have been more polar opposite this week, with some expert displays with the gloves all round, including a slick 6-4 double play and CF Jordan robbing Team II’s David of a grand slam with a catch up against the outfield fence. Tom quickly settled into his rhythm on the mound too and bounced back with an expertly pitched scoreless next inning, and that followed by another 6 runs added to the total put Team III in complete control of the game, and despite a spirited fightback at the death, Tom and Team III managed to close the game out for a confidence boosting 19-11 win. |

Sheffield Bladerunners III 10 - 1 Sheffield Bladerunners II Line-up -
2B C. Brosnan, LF K Brown, 1B S. Lingrell, P A. Williams, 3B H. Rowlands, SS ,T. Smith, C J. Hukin, CF J. Wynn, RF A. Walker Game Summary -
Buoyed by an impressive win earlier in the day, Team III carried that momentum into the second half of the double header to complete a very impressive win with a near-faultless display in every department. Pitcher Asher Williams continued his strong development this season with a masterful outing on the mound and the signs were there early on that he would have a strong day. Team II’s lead-off hitter reached base and scored the first run of the game, but that would prove to be the only time anybody would cross home plate for the away side as Asher went from strength to strength to shut them down. Opposing pitcher Stu started in similar fashion with a 3 up-3 down inning and it had the early feels of a strong pitchers duel. The bats did wake up soon after though and with each passing inning Team III kept adding a few runs to the total with solid clutch hitting, including a 2-run double from leadoff batter Connor just to keep extending the lead in case of a comeback, but there was no signs of that as Asher kept shutting Team 2 down with his 8 strikeouts and help from his fielders who had their best games of the season so far. A special mention also goes to veteran Jack Hukin who donned the catchers gear for the first time in both games and looked at home instantly, forming great connections with both pitchers, and topped it off by chopping down an attempted steal of 2nd base in the final half inning as Team II tried to mount some sort of comeback, but that, followed by 2 strikeouts from Asher ensured that wouldn’t happen as Team III wrapped up a 10-1 win for their most impressive victory of the season so far. |

2B C. Brosnan, C J. Gardner, 1B S. Lingrell, SS A. Bowers, P H. Rowlands, LF T. Smith, 3B J. Hukin, CF K. Brown. RF S. Gardner Game Summary -
Just as they did in their previous meeting, Team III struggled to get the bats working early off, as opposing pitcher Stu Garner once again came out of the traps hot and threw 2 scoreless innings, while Team II did the opposite and jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Pitcher Haydn quickly settled into his groove and threw 2 scoreless innings of his own to prevent Team II from extending their lead. With their work cut out Team 3 managed to rally together to flip the game on its head in the 3rd inning and take the lead, and with the game tied at 7-7 in the final inning and with the bases loaded a pitching change was made and Jack Hukin stepped up needing to make 2 outs to save the game and thanks to some expert pitching and smart fielding plays they somehow managed to work their way out of the inning, and the game was called a tie as it was mutually decided extra innings weren’t needed considering the extreme heat. |

CF K. Brown, SS J. Wynn, 1B S. Lingrell, 3B H. Rowlands, C J. Hukin, RF P. Baines, 2B M. Wraith, LF S. Gardner, P T. Smith Game Summary -
After a tie in the first game of the day, Team III were looking to make sure they started off in better fashion to ensure they could come away with a win and that’s how it played out in the early part of the game. A stunning 3-run double from catcher Jack Hukin sent Team III on their way to a 4-1 lead and pitcher Tom Smith, combined with smart fielding worked their way out of an early jam was Team II threatened to close that lead. It all began to unravel in a very rare messy inning, where after sitting down the first 2 batters in the 2nd, all of a sudden Team II began finding gaps and drawing walks, while Team III started making a few errors that they hadn’t looked like making all day, and in the blink of an eye the game looked to have gone as a 4-1 lead suddenly became a 4-12 deficit. A rallying team talk from captain Alan Bowers ahead of the final inning though clearly had an inspired effect as Team III went into that inning knowing they needed to score at least 8 runs to keep the game alive, but their heads never dropped and big hits from Hukin and Michael Wraith in clutch moments added another couple of RBI’s each to their names in a 9 run inning which not only kept the game alive but gave Team 3 a lead to defend going into the final half inning. Bowers himself pitched in relief here as he came in for the save, and after walking the tying run a groundout and 2 strikeouts sealed the save and somehow closed out an improbable win for Team III. |
