Recently the Bladerunners took part coaching over 50 local school children at an American sports event, which also included, cheerleading, basketball and american football.
The effort, talent and fun that was on show was truly amazing. Every child gave their 100% effort and were a credit to their schools. This is the 3rd year we have attended this event and every year its great to see kids enjoying new sports, especially baseball. All winter we've been giving new players a chance to try playing baseball and so many have never looked back and are now on the rosters for the upcoming season.
From April we'll be outside on Thurs evenings at Forge Valley School, so why not come along and give it a go. All equipment is provided and everyone's first session is FREE. So if you ever thought of playing but not yet got round to it, make 2020 the year to start your baseball journey. Get in touch for more details. Behind all good sports teams is a place where players and members can kick back, relax, share a drink and some food in a friendly local environment, The Loxley ticks all those boxes and you'll find us there after most games and training. The Loxley's team couldn't be more welcoming and the selection of food and drink certainly helps the mood win ( or lose) . If you haven't stopped by, make a trip and enjoy a drink and a meal, play some pool watch one of the many screens showing all sorts of events.
For the past couple of years. the club has slowly been developing our junior baseball program. This winter we've been running bonus indoor sessions, for our budding stars to get the baseball reps in.
The progress of our future stars has been inspiring and the club is proud to offer baseball to our local community. We're proud to have a great spirit within our whole squad and to celebrate this we introduced an off season,'non baseball' competition this past off season. We aptly named it the 'Hot Stove Series' and its proved to be a massive success, with over 35 players taking part across a range of events, including Axe Throwing!
2 randomly drawn teams have faced of in other events such a out 'Sac Fly've A Side' football, 'WHIPlash Karting' 'Pop Fly Pool' and there is still 'Strike Out' Bowling to come. We're sure this will become a long term comp. and has certainly made friends of team mates! The season is on its way, until then, we are just sat counting down the days to that first pitch. A loads been happening since September but nothing beats that first crack of the ball off the bat and the first run that crosses the plate.
Check our schedules and plan your visit to one of many games taking place at Forge Valley this year, it's sure to be a great year with all 3 teams in action. **** with the current situation regarding the pandemic sweeping the world, our season will be delayed in getting started, updates will follow as things improve **** As Spring comes round, our players are getting themselves ready for action. As a club, we provide all the equipment a player will need to play. However there's nothing like progressing to your very own equipment and feeling that little bit closer to looking like a pro, we provide advice and direction to get the best deals from some great outlet within the UK.
Come check out a game or two this year and see our 3 teams in action. In 2019 the Bladerunners expanded to 2 teams, which were divided equally on talent and experience and despite the names I & II they started the season on a level playing field.
By season end, the I's came out on top in the division, while the II's took the bragging rights in the league derby series. Both teams grew and developed massively and enabled us to run 3 teams in 2020. Congrats to all players who contributed to a successful 2019, let's get ready to go again in 2020. Don't forget we offer the chance to join us at our Slow Pitch Softball sessions, that we'll be running this year.
Softball is a great entry level, social, fun sport open to everyone, from young to old, sporty or less so. It really is the sport for all, The Bladerunners believe in equality and therefore run our sessions as co-ed, which is great for couples, friends and families to enjoy an organised sport together. Slow Pitch involves and underarm pitch and no stealing on the bases, meaning everyone contributes throughout the lineup, making it a great team event. Hopefully we'll also be introducing corporate softball this year too, so spread the word at work as team building exercise. |
